Life next to 404

I'm just a guy living in Columbus, Ohio that's always thinking.

I have an awesome girlfriend and a super cool dog.

Looks awesome, reminds me of a much more rich version of Myst, pretty interesting concept.

The myth of the page fold: evidence from user testing | cxpartners

I feel like this myth has been busted multiple times only to still have people come back and demand things go above “the fold”. To me “the fold” is becoming like IE6, time to stop letting everything come to a screeching halt because something happens to drop below this infamous imaginary line.

Possibly one of the best descriptions ever, “Echoing-Berlin-Wendy-Carlos-Depeche-retro-goth-Souxsie-white-noise-Ian-Curtis-new-wave-robo-sadness”.

I’ve always liked this type of typography. This one in particular may be my favorite.

Windows Mobile 6.5 Review: There's No Excuse For This - Windows mobile 6.5 review - Gizmodo

Gizmodo tears up Windows Mobile 6.5, I feel like they were still too nice.

This is completely unacceptable. It’s painful when Apple has more or less shown companies how to innovate and create a beautiful and usable interfaces on a mobile device and companies still find a way to muck it up.

There’s very little about the interface here that makes me want to use it. It’s almost mind blowing how bad the UI is. I haven’t tested this, so I have no idea, it could be incredibly snappy and easy to use but just from looking at it I have serious doubts. What is Microsoft doing?

Hopefully Windows Mobile 7 will be a very large jump in the right direction, for Microsoft’s sake.

Stefan Sagmeister: The power of time off

via ted.com

Another great TED video (I kinda watch a lot of these.) I’ve always liked Stefan Sagmeister’s philosophies on work and life, even if I’m not a fan of all of his work. I’ve often thought about taking some time off to do some self discovery. Sadly the things being the way they are and personal responsibility this doesn’t really seem possible at the moment. A great story and some inspiration for the morning.

Michael Pollan gives a plant's-eye view

via ted.com

One of my all-time favorite TED talks. I didn’t know who Michael Pollan was before this – now I have a giant brain crush on him. Thinking of the world in this way is an incredible way to humble yourself quickly.
